Synopsis – What to Expect from “Lucky”
Lucky is a 2017 drama film directed by John Carroll Lynch and written by Logan Sparks and Drago Sumonja. The film stars Harry Dean Stanton in his last feature film role, as well as David Lynch, Ron Livingston, Ed Begley Jr., Tom Skerritt, and Beth Grant.
The story follows Lucky, a 90-year-old atheist who lives alone in the small desert town of Holt, Arizona. He has a daily routine that he follows without fail, which includes doing yoga, drinking coffee, smoking, and visiting the local diner for breakfast. He has no family or friends, and his only companions are his beloved tortoise, President Roosevelt, and his cat, named Lucky.
One day, Lucky begins to experience strange symptoms, including dizziness, memory loss, and confusion. He visits his doctor, who informs him that he has an inoperable brain tumor. Lucky is given only a few months to live and decides to use the time he has left to confront the secrets of his past and make peace with his life.
He begins to reflect on his life, and the relationships he had with his family and friends. He reconnects with his old friend, Howard, and visits his estranged daughter, Loretta, whom he has not seen in years. As he visits these people from his past, Lucky begins to gain a greater understanding of his life and the choices he has made.
