Synopsis – What to Expect from “Little Lord Fauntleroy”
Little Lord Fauntleroy is a classic 1980s family drama based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It tells the story of an orphaned young boy named Cedric (Ricky Schroder) who is sent to live with his grandfather, the Earl of Dorincourt (Sir Alec Guinness) in England.
The Earl is a harsh and distant man, but Cedric’s enthusiasm and innocence eventually win him over. The Earl is revealed to be Cedric’s grandfather, making him the rightful heir to the title and estate of Lord Fauntleroy.
Cedric is thrust into a life of privilege, but he struggles to adjust to his new lifestyle. He is determined to keep his old friends and maintain his humble upbringing. He also finds himself at odds with his grandfather’s strict rules and expectations.
Meanwhile, Cedric’s mother (Colleen Dewhurst) is living in poverty in America. She is desperate to reunite with her son, but her circumstances prevent her from doing so.
Cedric’s grandfather eventually comes to accept him, and the two grow closer. He begins to understand the importance of family and the need to help those less fortunate.
In the end, Cedric is reunited with his mother and the Earl of Dorincourt finds true happiness. Little Lord Fauntleroy is a heartwarming tale of family, friendship, and the power of love.
