Synopsis – What to Expect from “Levity”
Levity is a 2003 drama film that follows the story of Manual Jordan (Billy Bob Thornton), a man who has been released from prison after serving a 19-year sentence for a murder he committed as a teenager. He struggles to adjust to life on the outside and is haunted by the past.
Manual is taken in by Miles Evans (Morgan Freeman), a pastor at a local church who offers him a job and a place to stay. Manual is grateful for the opportunity to start over, but he is still haunted by his past and struggles to find purpose in his new life.
Manual meets Adele Easley (Holly Hunter), a woman whose son was killed by a drunk driver. He finds solace in her presence and they form a bond. Adele helps Manual to come to terms with his past and to find his place in the world.
Meanwhile, Manual’s former cellmate, Javier (Kirk Jones), is released from prison and begins to cause trouble for Manual. He is determined to get revenge on Manual for snitching on him years earlier, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to make Manual pay.
Manual must find a way to protect himself and the people he cares about from Javier’s wrath. He must also find the strength to forgive himself for his past and move forward with his new life.
