Synopsis/Plot
Leviathan is a 2014 Russian science fiction drama film directed by Andrei Zvyagintsev and written by Zvyagintsev and Oleg Negin. The film stars Aleksei Serebryakov, Elena Lyadova, and Vladimir Vdovichenkov.
The film follows the story of Kolya, a mechanic who lives in a small Russian coastal town. When the town’s corrupt mayor attempts to take away his property to build a private beach resort, Kolya enlists the help of a lawyer friend to fight the mayor.
The film follows Kolya’s struggles to keep his home and his battle against the mayor’s power. As the situation escalates, Kolya’s life is thrown into chaos and he is forced to confront the demons of his past.
The film is set against the backdrop of the Russian landscape, and features stunning cinematography that captures the beauty of the region. The film also features a haunting score by Philip Glass.
