Synopsis/Plot
Leaving Las Vegas is a 1995 American romantic drama film directed by Mike Figgis and written by Figgis and Frank Rice. It stars Nicolas Cage as an alcoholic Hollywood screenwriter who has decided to move to Las Vegas to drink himself to death and Elisabeth Shue as a prostitute he falls in love with.
The film follows Ben Sanderson (Cage), an alcoholic Hollywood screenwriter whose career is in ruins and who has been fired from his job. In a desperate attempt to escape his life, he moves to Las Vegas with the intention of drinking himself to death. He meets and falls in love with a prostitute named Sera (Shue) who is also struggling with her own demons. The two form a bond, and despite their differences, they come to rely on each other for emotional support.
The film follows Ben and Sera as they navigate their way through the Las Vegas nightlife, with Ben slowly drinking himself to death. As they grow closer, Ben’s drinking begins to take a toll on their relationship. The film examines the consequences of alcoholism and addiction, as well as the power of love and redemption.
