Synopsis – What to Expect from “Lean on Pete”
Lean on Pete is a 2018 British-American drama film directed by Andrew Haigh, based on the novel of the same name by Willy Vlautin. It stars Charlie Plummer as a 15-year-old boy named Charley Thompson who embarks on a life-changing journey across the American Northwest with a stolen horse named Lean on Pete.
The film begins with Charley’s arrival in Portland, Oregon, where he has come to live with his estranged father. Charley is a shy, introverted teenager who is struggling to find his place in the world. He soon finds a job at a local stable, where he meets a gruff, yet kind-hearted horse trainer named Del Montgomery (Steve Buscemi). Charley quickly bonds with a racehorse named Lean on Pete, and decides to take him on a journey across the American Northwest.
As Charley and Pete journey across the countryside, they encounter a variety of people, from a runaway girl to a Native American tribe. Along the way, Charley learns to take care of himself and to rely on his own strength and resilience. He also discovers the importance of friendship and family, as well as the power of community.
Eventually, Charley and Pete reach Wyoming, where Charley discovers that Pete has been sold to a meat processing plant. Charley must now confront the harsh realities of the world and make a difficult decision about Pete’s fate. In the
