Synopsis/Plot
Lawless is a 2012 American crime drama film directed by John Hillcoat. The film is based on the true story of the Bondurant brothers, bootlegging siblings who operated in Franklin County, Virginia during the Prohibition era. Set in 1931, the film follows the three Bondurant brothers, Forrest, Howard, and Jack, as they attempt to establish a successful bootlegging business in the rural area.
The Bondurant brothers have a reputation for being tough and fearless, but their business is threatened when a corrupt special deputy, Charlie Rakes, arrives in town to enforce the law. Rakes is determined to shut down the Bondurant’s operation and will stop at nothing to do so, even resorting to violence and intimidation. In order to protect their business, the brothers must use their strength and ingenuity to outwit Rakes and the other law enforcement officers.
