Synopsis – What to Expect from “Kodachrome”
Kodachrome is a drama film set in the early 2000s, starring Ed Harris, Jason Sudeikis, Elizabeth Olsen, and Dennis Haysbert.
The film follows Matt Ryder (Sudeikis), a struggling music executive who is sent to Kansas to convince his ailing father, Ben (Harris), to sign a document that will allow a nursing home to take over his care. Ben, however, refuses to sign the document and instead requests that Matt take him on a road trip to Kansas to develop a roll of film he has been carrying around for 40 years. Reluctantly, Matt agrees and sets off on a journey with his father and Ben’s nurse, Zooey (Olsen).
Along the way, Matt and Ben are forced to confront their complicated relationship and the unresolved issues between them. They must also come to terms with the fact that Ben is dying and that his time is limited. As they travel across the country, they meet a variety of characters, including a young woman named Sarah (Haysbert) who helps them get to the lab in Kansas that still develops Kodachrome film.
The film culminates with Matt and Ben reaching the lab and developing the roll of film. As they look at the photos, they are reminded of all the memories they have shared together. In the end, Ben passes away peacefully, leaving Matt with the photos and a newfound appreciation for his father.
