Synopsis – What to Expect from “King David”
King David is a 1985 American epic historical drama film directed by Bruce Beresford. The film stars Richard Gere as the titular character, alongside Edward Woodward, Alice Krige, and Denis Quilley.
The film is set in the 10th century BC and tells the story of King David, the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel. The film follows the life of King David from his youth as a shepherd to his rise to power as a great leader of the Israelites, and his eventual downfall.
The film begins with David as a shepherd in the Judean hills, tending to his flock. One day he is called upon to fight in battle against the Philistines, and he single-handedly slays their champion, Goliath. This victory earns him great fame and the admiration of King Saul, who makes him a captain in his army.
David continues to gain favor with Saul and eventually marries his daughter, Michal. However, Saul’s jealousy and paranoia leads him to attempt to kill David, which David narrowly escapes. David then flees to the wilderness, where he is joined by a band of outlaws and begins to build a loyal following.
Meanwhile, Saul dies in battle and David is anointed as the new king of Israel. He faces many challenges as he attempts to unite the Israelites and bring them into a powerful nation. He also struggles with his own inner demons and guilt over his past actions
