Synopsis – What to Expect from “Kind Hearts and Coronets”
Kind Hearts and Coronets is a 1949 British black comedy film that follows the story of Louis Mazzini, a distant member of the aristocratic D’Ascoyne family, who has been disinherited and denied his rightful inheritance. After his mother is cast out of the family for marrying an Italian opera singer, Louis is determined to gain his revenge by becoming the next Duke of Chalfont.
The film follows Louis as he plots to ascend to the family’s title by murdering each of the eight members of the D’Ascoyne family who stand in his way. Louis enlists the help of a former family friend, the Reverend Lord Henry D’Ascoyne, who provides him with a list of all the family members and their addresses.
Louis begins his mission of revenge by murdering the family members one by one, using a variety of methods such as poison, a rifle, and a hangman’s noose. As he carries out his plan, Louis is pursued by a determined Inspector Pinckney, who is determined to catch the killer before he can complete his mission.
Meanwhile, Louis is also pursued by Edith D’Ascoyne, a beautiful young woman who is engaged to one of Louis’ victims. Despite her desire to bring Louis to justice, Edith is also drawn to him and finds herself increasingly attracted to him as the film progresses.
