Synopsis – What to Expect from “Julius Caesar”
The year is 44BC and Julius Caesar is the most powerful man in Rome. He has just been appointed dictator for life, and his ambition knows no bounds. The Senate, led by the noble Brutus, is divided over Caesar’s power. Some fear the tyrant he may become, while others are drawn to his strength.
The night before his coronation, Brutus and a group of conspirators, including Cassius, Casca, and Decius, meet in secret to plan Caesar’s assassination. On the Ides of March, the conspirators strike, stabbing Caesar to death in the Senate.
The death of Caesar sparks a civil war between the conspirators and the loyalists of Caesar, led by Mark Antony. Brutus and his allies are driven from Rome, and the city is in chaos. Antony, Octavius, and Lepidus form the Second Triumvirate and set out to avenge Caesar’s death.
The Triumvirate’s forces battle the conspirators at the Battle of Philippi. Brutus and Cassius are defeated and commit suicide, leaving the Triumvirate in control of Rome.
With the death of the conspirators, the Roman Republic is restored and the rule of the Triumvirate is established. Antony and Octavius each pursue their own ambitions, while Lepidus remains loyal to the Triumvirate.
The Triumvirate’s rule
