Synopsis – What to Expect from “Jezebel”
Jezebel is a 1938 American romantic drama film directed by William Wyler and starring Bette Davis, Henry Fonda, and George Brent. The movie tells the story of Julie Marsden (Bette Davis), a beautiful and headstrong young woman living in the antebellum South.
Julie is a strong-willed woman who is determined to have her own way, no matter the cost. She is engaged to Preston Dillard (Henry Fonda), a wealthy and respected banker from a prominent New Orleans family. Despite her father’s objections, Julie insists on wearing a red dress to the Mardi Gras ball, which is considered scandalous. Her stubbornness causes a rift between her and Preston, and their engagement is called off.
Julie is determined to win back Preston and sets out to prove her worth to him. She begins to help the poor and needy in her community, and her kindness eventually wins Preston back. However, their reunion is short-lived, as Preston’s family disapproves of Julie and pressures him to break off the engagement once again.
Julie is determined to prove her worth to Preston’s family and she begins to work hard to make a name for herself. She eventually succeeds in becoming a successful businesswoman, but her newfound success is threatened when a yellow fever epidemic breaks out in New Orleans.
