Synopsis/Plot
Jesus is a 1979 British-Italian religious epic film directed by British director Peter Sykes and produced by Dino De Laurentiis. It is based on the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, from his birth to his death and resurrection.
The film stars Robert Powell as Jesus, and also features an all-star cast including Michael York, Ernest Borgnine, Ian McShane, Laurence Olivier, Donald Pleasence, Christopher Plummer, and James Mason.
The film begins with the birth of Jesus in a stable in Bethlehem, and follows his life as he grows up in Nazareth and begins his ministry. Jesus travels around the country, teaching his message of love and healing, performing miracles, and gathering a followingEventually, Jesus is betrayed by one of his own followers, Judas Iscariot, and is arrested and brought before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea. Despite the pleas of the crowd, Pilate sentences Jesus to death. Jesus is crucified, and dies on the cross. Three days later, Jesus rises from the dead, fulfilling his promise of eternal life.
The film ends with Jesus ascending into Heaven, leaving his disciples to spread his message of love and peace to the world.
