Synopsis – What to Expect from “Jesus”
Jesus is a 1999 American historical drama film directed by Roger Young and starring Jeremy Sisto, Debra Messing, Jacqueline Bisset, Armin Mueller-Stahl, and Gary Oldman.
The film follows the life of Jesus of Nazareth (Sisto) from his humble beginnings as a carpenter’s son to his ministry and eventual crucifixion. Along the way, Jesus encounters numerous people who will shape his destiny, including Mary Magdalene (Messing), Judas Iscariot (Oldman), and Pontius Pilate (Mueller-Stahl).
The film begins with the birth of Jesus in a humble stable in Bethlehem. As he grows up, Jesus is taught carpentry by his father Joseph (Armand Assante). His mother Mary (Bisset) is a devoted follower of the Jewish faith and instills in Jesus a deep respect for his religion.
When Jesus turns 30, he begins to preach his message of love and forgiveness. He quickly gains a following, and as his fame grows, so does the opposition from the Jewish authorities.
Jesus travels throughout Judea and Galilee, healing the sick and performing miracles. He is eventually arrested and brought before Pontius Pilate, who orders his crucifixion.
On the cross, Jesus forgives his persecutors and dies, but his legacy lives on. His message of love and forgiveness continues to inspire people to this day.
