Synopsis/Plot
It Takes Two is a 1995 romantic comedy starring Kirstie Alley and Steve Guttenberg. The story follows two strangers, Amanda Lemmon (Alley) and Alyssa Callaway (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen), who are both in desperate need of a parental figure in their lives. Amanda is an orphan, while Alyssa is the daughter of a wealthy, yet neglectful couple. When the two meet at summer camp, they quickly become friends and hatch a plan to bring their parents together, believing that they will be better off as a family.
The two girls take drastic measures to make their plan a reality, including kidnapping Alyssa’s father and forcing him to take Amanda in as his daughter. Along the way, they encounter a host of characters, including a bumbling kidnapper (Guttenberg), a friendly social worker (Philip Bosco), and a wise-cracking cab driver (Phil Hartman).
