Synopsis – What to Expect from “Irresistible”
Irresistible is a 2020 political comedy-drama written and directed by Jon Stewart. The film stars Steve Carell as Gary Zimmer, a Democratic political consultant who helps a retired Marine colonel (Chris Cooper) run for mayor in a small Wisconsin town.
The film opens with Gary Zimmer, a successful political consultant in Washington, DC, who is looking for a way to get back into the political game. When he hears about a small-town mayoral race in rural Wisconsin, he sees an opportunity to prove his worth. He offers his services to the retired Marine colonel, Jack Hastings (Chris Cooper), who is running for mayor.
At first, Gary’s strategy to get Jack elected is to focus on local issues and rally the townspeople around him. But when the Republican political machine arrives in town, Gary is forced to take a more aggressive approach. He starts a smear campaign against the Republican candidate, and his tactics become increasingly more extreme.
Meanwhile, Jack’s daughter, Diana (Mackenzie Davis), is unimpressed with Gary’s tactics and begins to question her father’s political ambitions. As tensions mount between Gary and Diana, Jack is forced to make a difficult decision between his political ambitions and his family.
As the election draws near, Gary and Diana must decide whether their differences are worth fighting for and if Jack’s campaign is worth the cost. Can Gary’s tactics help Jack win the election, or will they be his undoing?
