Synopsis – What to Expect from “Irma la Douce”
Irma La Douce is a romantic comedy set in the colorful streets of Paris, France. The film follows Nestor Patou (Jack Lemmon), a Parisian police officer who is fed up with his job and decides to quit. He finds a job as a night watchman at a nightclub called Chez Irma, run by the beautiful and mysterious Irma La Douce (Shirley MacLaine).
Nestor quickly falls in love with Irma, but she is already involved with her pimp, Lord X (Lou Jacobi). Lord X is a shrewd businessman who is trying to make a profit off of Irma, and he is not happy when he finds out about Nestor’s affections for her.
Meanwhile, Nestor’s old police chief, Inspector Lefevre (Herbert Lom), is investigating a series of robberies in the area and suspects Nestor is involved. He follows Nestor to Chez Irma, where he discovers the truth about Nestor and Irma’s relationship.
In the end, Nestor and Irma are able to get away from Lord X and start a new life together. They open their own nightclub, and Nestor is able to use his experience as a former police officer to help solve the robberies. The film ends with Nestor and Irma happily married and living a life of love and laughter.
