Synopsis – What to Expect from “I.Q.”
I.Q. is a romantic comedy starring Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins, and Walter Matthau. The movie follows the story of a working-class mechanic, Ed Walters (Robbins), who falls in love with a genius, Catherine Boyd (Ryan).
Catherine’s uncle, Albert Einstein (Matthau), is a scientist and inventor who lives in Princeton, New Jersey. He is a lonely old man, and his niece is the only person who can make him smile. When Ed meets Catherine, he is instantly smitten and begins to pursue her.
Meanwhile, Albert is working on a revolutionary new invention – a machine that will allow people to communicate telepathically. It is a project that he has been working on for years, but has been unable to complete.
When Albert finds out about Ed and Catherine’s relationship, he is initially opposed to it, but eventually comes to accept it. He also decides to use Ed as a guinea pig to test his invention.
Ed is hesitant at first, but eventually agrees to be a part of the experiment. After a series of tests, Albert is able to successfully connect Ed and Catherine’s minds, allowing them to communicate telepathically.
The experiment is a success, but it also has an unexpected side effect – Ed and Catherine can now read each other’s thoughts. This leads to a number of hilarious situations as the two struggle to adjust to this new form of communication.
