Insomnia is a 2002 psychological thriller directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and Hilary Swank. The film follows two detectives, Will Dormer (Pacino) and Hap Eckhart (Williams), as they travel to a small Alaskan town to investigate the murder of a young girl. In the course of their investigation, they find themselves in a web of deceit and lies that threatens to unravel their sanity. As the case progresses, the detectives become increasingly sleep deprived, leading to a series of mistakes that put their lives in danger.
The film is set in a small Alaskan fishing village, where the sun never sets during summer. This constant light affects the detectives’ sleep patterns, causing them to become increasingly paranoid and delusional. Will’s already fragile mental state is further aggravated by his guilt over a past mistake, which leads to a series of bad decisions. As the detectives try to solve the case, they are stalked by an unseen killer who is determined to stop them from uncovering the truth.
The film features a strong ensemble cast, with Pacino and Williams delivering some of their best performances. The film also features an excellent score by David Julyan, which
