In Which We Serve is a 1942 British war film directed by Noël Coward and David Lean. It tells the story of the crew of a British destroyer, HMS Torrin, from the time of its launch to its sinking in the Mediterranean Sea during the Battle of Crete in 1941.
The film begins with the launch of the HMS Torrin and the christening of the ship by Lady Una Alconbury (Celia Johnson). The crew is then introduced, including the captain, Lord Louis Mountbatten (Noël Coward). As the ship sets off on its mission, the crew is seen bonding and developing a strong sense of camaraderie.
The ship is then sent to the Mediterranean Sea, where it is attacked by German bombers. The crew fights bravely, but the ship is eventually sunk. Many of the crew survive, but some are killed in the attack.
The surviving crew members are then taken to a prisoner of war camp in Crete, where they are subjected to harsh treatment and forced labor. Despite the difficult circumstances, the crew remains strong and united.
Meanwhile, back in England, Lady Una is informed of the sinking of the HMS Torrin and is distraught. She is determined to do something to help the crew, and she begins to organize a relief effort for the survivors of the ship.
