Synopsis/Plot
In the Name of the Father is a 1993 Irish-British-American biographical courtroom drama film directed by Jim Sheridan. It is based on the true story of the Guildford Four, four people falsely convicted of the 1974 IRA bombings of two pubs in Guildford, England. The film stars Daniel Day-Lewis as Gerry Conlon, a young man from Belfast who is falsely convicted of the bombings and sent to prison. Emma Thompson plays his lawyer, Gareth Peirce, who fights for his release. Pete Postlethwaite, John Lynch, and Liam Neeson also star in the film.
The film begins with Gerry Conlon, a young man from Belfast, Ireland, who is falsely accused of the 1974 IRA bombings of two pubs in Guildford, England. He is arrested and sent to prison, where he meets three other men who are also accused of the bombings. Together, they are known as the Guildford Four. Gerry’s father, Giuseppe, is also arrested and sent to prison for the same crime.
