Synopsis – What to Expect from “In Love and War”
In Love and War is a 1996 romantic drama set during World War I. The story follows Ernest Hemingway (Chris O’Donnell) as he falls in love with Agnes von Kurowsky (Sandra Bullock), a nurse who is taking care of wounded soldiers in Italy.
The film begins in Italy, 1918, as Hemingway, a young American ambulance driver, arrives to help in the war effort. He meets Agnes, a beautiful nurse, and the two quickly fall in love. Despite their differences – Hemingway is a naive young man and Agnes is a mature woman – the two share an intense connection.
As the war continues, Hemingway and Agnes’s love story is put to the test. Hemingway is sent into battle, and Agnes is forced to make a difficult decision when another soldier (Willem Dafoe) proposes to her. Meanwhile, Hemingway’s friend (Eric Bana) is wounded in battle, and Hemingway must make a difficult decision of his own.
The film follows Hemingway and Agnes as they struggle to find their way through the horrors of war and the complexities of love. In the end, Hemingway must decide whether he can let go of the past and embrace a new future.
