Igby Goes Down is a 2002 American coming-of-age comedy-drama film written and directed by Burr Steers. The film stars Kieran Culkin, Claire Danes, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Amanda Peet, Ryan Phillippe, and Susan Sarandon.
The film follows Igby Slocumb (Kieran Culkin), a rebellious and confused 17-year-old boy from New York City. Igby is the son of a wealthy, dysfunctional family and is struggling to find his place in the world. He is tired of his overbearing mother (Susan Sarandon) and the strict rules of his prep school and decides to drop out and move to Manhattan.
In Manhattan, Igby begins to explore the city and discovers a world he never knew existed. He meets a variety of people, including the eccentric D.H. (Jeff Goldblum), a drug dealer who takes Igby under his wing. Igby also meets Sookie Sapperstein (Claire Danes), a young girl with a troubled past. Igby and Sookie begin to develop a relationship, and Igby starts to become more aware of the world around him.
