Synopsis – What to Expect from “Hyde Park on Hudson”
Hyde Park on Hudson is a 2012 British-American comedy-drama film directed by Roger Michell and written by Richard Nelson. The film tells the story of the love affair between Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, and his distant cousin, Margaret “Daisy” Suckley, during a weekend in 1939 when King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom visited FDR’s home in Hyde Park, New York.
The film opens in 1939, as President Roosevelt (Bill Murray) is preparing to host the King and Queen of England at his home in Hyde Park, New York. Daisy (Laura Linney), a distant cousin of the President, is invited to the weekend-long event, and she quickly finds herself in the middle of a love triangle between FDR, his wife Eleanor (Olivia Williams), and herself.
The weekend progresses with the President and Daisy growing closer, while Eleanor begins to suspect something is going on between them. Meanwhile, the King and Queen are trying to make a favorable impression on the President and the American people.
The weekend culminates in a picnic at the President’s home, where Daisy and FDR share a private moment. Eleanor eventually discovers the truth about Daisy and FDR’s relationship, and she confronts Daisy. Daisy is forced to leave the picnic, and the King and Queen soon depart as well.
