Synopsis/Plot
Hustle & Flow is a 2005 American independent drama film written and directed by Craig Brewer and produced by John Singleton and Stephanie Allain. The film follows DJay, a pimp and drug dealer from Memphis, Tennessee, who is trying to make a better life for himself and his prostitute girlfriend, Shug. With the help of his friends, Key and Shelby, DJay attempts to achieve his dream of becoming a successful rapper.
The film stars Terrence Howard as DJay, Anthony Anderson as Key, Taryn Manning as Shug, Taraji P. Henson as Nola, and DJ Qualls as Shelby. The film also features music from artists such as Three 6 Mafia, Juvenile, Project Pat, and Young Buck.
Hustle & Flow follows DJay’s attempt to make it as a rapper by recording a demo album. He struggles to make ends meet and is often short on cash, but he is determined to make it as a rapper. With the help of his friends, DJay manages to record a demo album and eventually gets his music heard by a local radio station.
