Now rebranded as Teleparty, Netflix Party saw a surge in users during the COVID-19 pandemic. This browser extension, backed by Netflix, allowed viewers to host virtual watch parties. Without breaking social-distancing rules, Netflix Party allowed users to watch their favorite Netflix shows and movies together.
Netflix Party garnered over 10 million downloads since its launch in 2020. And thankfully, for us viewers, it didn’t stop there. So, before I tell you how to Netflix Party on iPhone & iPad, let’s take a look at what more Netflix Party, a.k.a Teleparty, offers.
Netflix Party – Supported Devices & Streaming Platforms
Before we get down to business, here’s a short guide on how to get Netflix Party on various devices. Plus, new streaming services have been added to Teleparty post the rebranding. So, we’ll have a look at those as well.
How to Get Netflix Party/Teleparty?
As mentioned earlier, Netflix Party is a browser extension. It will work on Windows and Mac devices. And there’s an Android app as well. Users can add the Teleparty extension to –
With the extension installed, it’s pretty easy to host and join a Netflix watch party. But this only works for desktop computer and laptop users. Android users can download the Teleparty app onto their devices and have as many Netflix watch parties as they want.
Then come the iOS users. There is no Teleparty app on Apple’s App Store right now. And since Safari for iPhone and iPad doesn’t support extensions, there is no way to get Teleparty on iOS devices.
But there is still a way to enjoy Netflix Party on iPhones and iPads. Jump to the next section if you’re in a hurry.
Teleparty & All Supported Streaming Services
Only a few months after its launch, Netflix Party rebranded to Teleparty, and they changed a lot more than just the name. From October 2020, Teleparty added the following streaming services to their roster:
- Netflix
- Hulu
- Amazon Prime Video
- Disney+
- HBO Max
- YouTube
With such an impressive collection, little-to-no competition, and great service, I think Teleparty is the best platform to host virtual watch parties right now.
But what if you want to join a Netflix watch party on iPhone or iPad? There is a perfect solution that I use myself. It’s an app called Rave.
How to Netflix Party on iPhone/iPad?
Android users are lucky enough and have the official Teleparty app in the Google Play Store. But, Teleparty’s iOS app is still in the works. And there’s no way to install the Teleparty browser extension on iOS devices.
But by using the Rave – Watch Party Together app, iOS users can finally have Netflix watch parties.
Download Rave on your iOS device and perform the steps below to set up a Netflix watch party on your iPhone.
- Launch the Rave app.
- Sign in using your email, Apple ID, or social media account (Facebook, Twitter, VK).
- Create a handle.
- Once you’re in, you’ll see the home screen and tons of public watch parties.
- Click on the + sign in the bottom right-hand corner to start your watch party.
- You’ll see all the platforms available.
- Choose Netflix, and Sign in.
- Now, choose what you want to watch.
- Once your video starts, you are now hosting a public watch party.
- Click on Private in the bottom right corner to make the watch party private.
- You’ll see an invite link at the bottom.
- Share that link with friends who you want to join your watch party.
- Enjoy!
You can choose the video quality and chat with your friends in real-time- text and audio. Another impressive thing is that the Rave app is available on the Google Play Store as well. So, iOS and Android users can have virtual watch parties together using Rave.
Moreover, Windows and Mac users can download Rave apps as well.
Will Everyone in a Rave Watch Party Need a Netflix Account?
Yes. If you are having a Rave watch party and watching a Netflix show, all the participants must have a Netflix account to use with Rave.
Rave is not a streaming app where the host can create a stream that others can join and enjoy. Instead, the movie or TV show you are watching will be playing on all the devices separately.
For example, if you are hosting a Netflix Party on Rave with 6 of your friends, all 6 of them will need to sign in to Netflix. Your screen is not shared with anyone on Rave. And this has been confirmed by Rave on Twitter.
All the participants don’t have to be on the same Netflix plan. But they must be a paying subscriber. Moreover, password sharing won’t work either. Users with a premium plan of 4 simultaneous streams won’t get to join a Rave party from different devices.
Now you know how to Netflix Party on iPhone or iPad. Although Teleparty has more streaming services, Rave is more inclusive and has apps for every platform. And if you’re only watching Netflix, Rave might just be the better option.
