Synopsis – What to Expect from “How Green Was My Valley”
How Green Was My Valley is a classic 1941 drama set in a small Welsh mining town. The film follows the life of a young boy, Huw Morgan, and his family as they struggle to make ends meet in the face of the town’s industrialization.
The film begins with Huw and his family living in a small, rural valley in Wales. The Morgans are a close-knit family, consisting of Huw’s parents, Gwilym and Beth, and his four brothers and sisters. The family makes a living farming the land, but their livelihood is threatened by the arrival of a coal mining company. The company’s presence brings with it a wave of industrialization, which threatens to disrupt the traditional way of life in the valley.
As the family struggles to adjust to the changes, Huw’s older brother, Ivor, joins the miners in a strike against the company. The strike is unsuccessful, and Ivor is killed in a mining accident. The tragedy causes a rift between Huw and his father, as Gwilym feels that Ivor’s death was his fault.
Meanwhile, Huw falls in love with Angharad, a beautiful young woman from a wealthy family. The two are kept apart by their class differences, but Huw’s determination to win her heart eventually leads to a happy ending.
As the film progresses, Huw’s family is forced to leave the valley as the coal mining company takes over
