Synopsis/Plot
House of Sand and Fog is a 2003 drama film directed by Vadim Perelman and based on the novel of the same name by Andre Dubus III. The film follows the story of an Iranian immigrant family in California who are evicted from their home and the consequences that follow.
The film opens with Kathy Nicolo (Jennifer Connelly), a recovering addict, being evicted from her home due to a bureaucratic error. The house is then sold to Behrani (Ben Kingsley), an Iranian immigrant who is determined to restore the house to its former glory and provide a better life for his family. However, Kathy is determined to get her house back and enlists the help of a police officer, Lester Burdon (Ron Eldard), to help her reclaim it.
The film follows the conflict between Kathy and Behrani as they battle for the house. As the story progresses, secrets are revealed and tensions escalate as the two protagonists clash over the house. The film culminates in a tragic and heartbreaking ending as the two characters come to terms with the consequences of their actions.
