Synopsis – What to Expect from “Hour of the Gun”
Hour of the Gun is a 1967 western directed by John Sturges and starring James Garner and Jason Robards. The film is based on the true story of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona, in 1881.
The movie opens with Wyatt Earp (Garner) and his brothers Virgil and Morgan, along with their friend Doc Holliday (Robards), arriving in the lawless town of Tombstone. They soon find themselves at odds with the Clanton family, a gang of outlaws led by Ike Clanton (Robert Ryan). The tension between the two sides escalates, culminating in a violent gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
In the aftermath of the shootout, Wyatt and Doc are arrested and put on trial for murder. Despite the lack of evidence, the jury finds them guilty and they are sentenced to hang. However, Wyatt and Doc manage to escape and go on the run.
The movie then shifts its focus to the aftermath of the gunfight, as Wyatt, Doc, and the Earp brothers attempt to bring the Clantons to justice. They travel across the West, tracking down the outlaws and eventually cornering them in a remote canyon. In a climactic shootout, the Earps and Doc Holliday finally bring an end to the Clanton gang.
