Synopsis – What to Expect from “Hope Floats”
Hope Floats is a 1998 romantic drama directed by Forest Whitaker and starring Sandra Bullock, Harry Connick Jr., Gena Rowlands, and Mae Whitman. The movie follows Birdee Pruitt (Bullock), a single mother who returns to her hometown of Smithville, Texas after her husband reveals he is having an affair on a national talk show.
Upon her return, Birdee and her daughter Bernice (Whitman) are met with judgment and gossip from the small-town locals. Birdee is also reunited with her former best friend Justin (Connick Jr.), who is now a divorced single father. At the same time, Birdee must also face her past and confront the issues that caused her marriage to fail. With the help of her mother Ramona (Rowlands) and a newfound friendship with her neighbor, Birdee begins to heal and find the courage to move on with her life.
