Synopsis – What to Expect from “Hope and Glory”
Hope and Glory is a 1987 British-American comedy-drama directed by John Boorman. Set in London during World War II, the film follows the life of young Bill Rohan (Sebastian Rice-Edwards) and his family as they struggle to survive the war’s chaos.
The film begins with Bill and his family living in a small London suburb. As they go about their daily lives, the war starts to become more and more real. Bill’s father, Clive (Ian Bannen), is a conscientious objector and refuses to fight, while his mother, Grace (Sarah Miles), is determined to keep the family together.
When the Blitz begins and bombs start falling on London, Bill and his family are forced to evacuate to the countryside. While in the countryside, they stay with Bill’s grandparents, who tell stories of their own wartime experiences. Bill’s grandfather also teaches him how to shoot a gun, which he uses to protect his family when they are threatened by a German bomber.
Meanwhile, Bill’s father is called up to fight and is sent to the front lines. As the war rages on, Bill and his family must learn to cope with the dangers and uncertainties of life during wartime.
At the same time, Bill begins to experience the joys of childhood, such as playing in the fields with his friends and exploring his new surroundings. He also starts to develop a crush on a local girl, which leads
