Synopsis – What to Expect from “Hoffa”
Hoffa is a biographical drama film released in 1992, starring Jack Nicholson as the titular character, Jimmy Hoffa. The film follows Hoffa’s rise to power in the Teamsters Union, and his eventual downfall.
The film opens with Hoffa’s childhood in Pennsylvania, where his father was a coal miner and Hoffa was a union organizer. He quickly rises to power among the labor unions, as he is passionate about protecting workers’ rights. He is eventually elected to the presidency of the Teamsters Union, and his influence continues to grow.
Hoffa’s success begins to attract the attention of the FBI, who are concerned about his ties to organized crime. Hoffa is eventually convicted of bribery and sent to prison, but is pardoned by President Nixon. Upon his release, Hoffa attempts to regain his power in the union, but is met with resistance from the government and rival union leaders.
Hoffa is eventually declared missing, and the film follows his mysterious disappearance and the subsequent investigation. The film culminates with Hoffa’s body being found in a shallow grave, his murder unsolved.
The film is a gripping and powerful look at the life of one of America’s most influential labor leaders, and the struggles he faced in his fight for workers’ rights. It is also a gripping mystery, as the audience is left to wonder who killed Hoffa and why.
