Synopsis – What to Expect from “High Flying Bird”
High Flying Bird is a 2019 sports drama film directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by Tarell Alvin McCraney. The film stars André Holland, Melvin Gregg, Zazie Beetz, Sonja Sohn, and Bill Duke.
The film follows a sports agent (Holland) who finds himself in a power struggle between the NBA owners and the players during a basketball lockout. He teams up with a rookie player (Gregg) and his mentor (Duke) to devise a plan to get the players back on the court.
The film begins with sports agent Ray Burke (Holland) meeting with a rookie basketball player, Erick Scott (Gregg). Ray is trying to get Erick to sign a contract with a professional team, but Erick is hesitant. Ray then meets with Erick’s mentor, Spence (Duke), who advises Erick to trust Ray and sign the contract.
With the contract signed, Ray is now in the middle of a power struggle between the NBA owners and the players. The owners want to impose a salary cap on the players, while the players want to keep the current system. With the players threatening to go on strike, Ray comes up with a plan to get the players back on the court. He teams up with Erick and Spence to devise a plan to bypass the owners and get the players back on the court.
