Synopsis – What to Expect from “Hell on the Border”
Hell on the Border is a 2019 American Western film based on the true story of Bass Reeves, the first African-American Deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi River.
The movie follows Bass Reeves (David Gyasi) as he works to protect the Oklahoma Territory from outlaws and criminals. After being given the task of bringing in the notorious outlaw and murderer Bob Dozier (Frank Grillo), Reeves finds himself in a dangerous situation when Dozier escapes from prison and embarks on a violent rampage across the territory.
Reeves teams up with a fellow lawman, Deputy U.S. Marshal John Hixon (Ron Perlman), to hunt down Dozier and his gang. Together, they are forced to confront their own prejudices and fears as they attempt to restore justice to the region.
The movie also stars Wes Studi as Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Heck Thomas, and Zahn McClarnon as outlaw Bill Cook.
As Reeves and Hixon pursue Dozier, they must battle against the elements, their own personal demons, and the growing hostility of the locals who do not want them in their town. They must also confront their own prejudices and fears as they attempt to restore justice to the region.
The movie culminates in a violent showdown between Reeves and Dozier, with Reeves ultimately emerging victorious as the first African-American Deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi River.
