It follows the journey of a glowing green orb from the depths of space to a planet, where it endows a girl with mysterious powers.
The film follows a series of different stories, each with its own unique setting and characters. From a post-apocalyptic world filled with mutants and monsters, to a mysterious planet populated by a tribe of Amazons, to a distant future where technology has advanced to the point of creating robotic lifeforms, each story is filled with action, adventure, and suspense. The stories are linked together by the green orb, which serves as a unifying element throughout the film.
The animation in Heavy Metal is unique and visually stunning, with a combination of traditional cel animation, rotoscoping, and computer-generated imagery. The film also features a unique soundtrack, composed by Elmer Bernstein, that blends traditional rock music with classical and electronic elements.
