Synopsis/Plot
Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison is a 1957 American romantic drama war film directed by John Huston and starring Deborah Kerr and Robert Mitchum. The story is set during World War II and centers on two characters stranded on a Japanese-occupied island in the Pacific Ocean.
Marine Corps Sergeant Allison (Mitchum) is a survivor of a shipwreck off the coast of an unnamed Japanese-held island in the Pacific. He is the only survivor and finds himself alone on the island. He discovers a Catholic nun, Sister Angela (Kerr), who has been living on the island for several months.
The two form a bond of friendship and companionship as they try to survive on the island. They must evade the Japanese troops who are searching for them and also deal with the harsh environment. They must also confront their inner demons as they come to terms with their feelings for one another.
Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison is a beautifully shot film with stunning visuals and an excellent performance from both Kerr and Mitchum. It is a gripping story of survival, love, and the strength of the human spirit. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Deborah Kerr.
