Synopsis – What to Expect from “Hearts in Atlantis”
Hearts in Atlantis is a 2001 drama film directed by Scott Hicks and starring Anthony Hopkins, Anton Yelchin, Hope Davis, and David Morse.
The film follows the story of 11-year-old Bobby Garfield (Anton Yelchin) who lives in a small town in Connecticut in the 1960s. His mother (Hope Davis) is struggling to make ends meet and Bobby is having a hard time making friends. One day, he meets an elderly man named Ted Brautigan (Anthony Hopkins), who moves into the apartment downstairs.
Ted quickly befriends Bobby and introduces him to a mysterious game called “Hearts”. Bobby begins to learn the game and as he does, he discovers that Ted has some sort of supernatural powers. Ted is being pursued by a mysterious group of men who are trying to capture him for his powers.
Bobby and Ted team up and go on the run, trying to stay one step ahead of the men. Along the way, Bobby learns more about Ted’s past and why he is being pursued. He also learns more about friendship and loyalty.
Eventually, Bobby and Ted make it to a safe place and Ted reveals the truth about his powers. Bobby must then decide whether to keep Ted’s secret or to tell the truth and possibly put them both in danger.
