Synopsis/Plot
Hawking is a documentary about the life and work of the renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. It follows his journey from his early days as a brilliant but unassuming student at Cambridge University, through his diagnosis of motor neurone disease and his rise to fame as the most famous scientist in the world.
The film begins with Hawking’s diagnosis of motor neurone disease at the age of 21. Despite being told he only had two years to live, Hawking’s determination to continue his work drove him to become one of the most influential scientists of his time. The documentary follows his groundbreaking theories on black holes and the Big Bang, and his struggle with his disability.
The film also focuses on Hawking’s personal life, including his relationship with his first wife, Jane, and the birth of his three children. It also looks at his second marriage, to his nurse, Elaine Mason, and his battle with depression.
Hawking also features interviews with some of the world’s leading scientists, including Stephen Hawking’s own colleagues, as well as archival footage and photographs. It is a fascinating insight into the life of one of the most brilliant minds of our time, and a powerful testament to the power of the human spirit.
