Synopsis/Plot
Hairspray is a 2007 musical comedy film based on the 2002 Broadway musical of the same name. The film follows Tracy Turnblad, a teenage girl living in Baltimore in the 1960s, who dreams of being a dancer on a popular TV show. Despite her plus-size figure, Tracy wins a spot on the show, and quickly becomes a celebrity.
Tracy’s newfound fame puts her at the center of a cultural revolution, as she challenges the show’s racist and sexist norms. With the help of her friends, Tracy works to integrate the show and promote racial equality.
The film stars John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, and Queen Latifah. The film is directed by Adam Shankman and produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
