Synopsis/Plot
Hachi: A Dog’s Tale is a 2009 drama film directed by Lasse Hallström. It stars Richard Gere, Joan Allen, and Sarah Roemer.
The film is based on the true story of a loyal Akita Inu, Hachiko, who lived in Japan during the 1920s. Every day, Hachiko would accompany his master, Professor Ueno, to the Shibuya train station and wait for him to return. One day, the professor did not return, as he had suddenly passed away. Hachiko continued to wait for him at the station every day for the next nine years, until his own death.
The film follows the story of Parker Wilson, a collegeprofessor who discovers Hachiko at a pet store and takes him home. Despite the initial difficulty of adjusting to his new home, Hachiko eventually forms a strong bond with Parker and his family. One day, Parker is late coming home from work, and Hachiko waits for him at the train station. This continues every day until Parker’s death, when Hachiko continues to wait for him at the station for the next nine years. The film follows Hachiko’s story and his unwavering loyalty to his master, and how his story touches the lives of all those he meets.
