Synopsis – What to Expect from “Gulliver’s Travels”
Gulliver’s Travels is a classic 1939 fantasy-adventure film directed by Dave Fleischer. It is based on the novel by Jonathan Swift and stars a young actor named Lanny Ross as the title character, Lemuel Gulliver.
The movie begins with Gulliver, a ship’s doctor, who is on a voyage to the East Indies. However, a violent storm causes the ship to sink and Gulliver finds himself stranded on a mysterious island called Lilliput. Here he discovers that the inhabitants are tiny people, only a few inches tall.
Gulliver quickly finds himself in the middle of a political struggle between two factions of Lilliputians: the “Little-Endians” and the “Big-Endians”. The Big-Endians want to put Gulliver on trial for his size while the Little-Endians want to use him to their advantage. Gulliver eventually escapes from Lilliput and finds himself on the island of Brobdingnag, where the inhabitants are giants.
Gulliver is initially a curiosity to the Brobdingnagians, but soon finds himself in another political struggle as the King of Brobdingnag is suspicious of Gulliver’s intentions. Gulliver eventually escapes from Brobdingnag and finds himself on the island of Laputa, where the inhabitants are scientists and inventors.
