Synopsis/Plot
Grumpy Old Men is a 1993 American romantic comedy film starring Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Ann-Margret, and Burgess Meredith. The film follows two elderly, lifelong rivals, John Gustafson (Lemmon) and Max Goldman (Matthau), who have been feuding since childhood. When a beautiful and spirited woman (Ann-Margret) moves into their small Minnesota town, they both become smitten with her and their rivalry is reignited.
The film follows the two men as they compete for the affections of the woman, while also dealing with their own personal issues. John is a retired fisherman who is struggling to cope with his wife’s death. Max is a retired salesman who is struggling with his own loneliness. As the two men compete for the woman’s attention, they also help each other to confront their own issues and ultimately come to terms with their own mortality.
