Synopsis/Plot
Good Morning, Vietnam is a 1987 American comedy-drama war film directed by Barry Levinson and written by Mitch Markowitz. The film stars Robin Williams as Adrian Cronauer, a radio DJ in Saigon during the Vietnam War.
The film follows Cronauer as he arrives in Saigon to take over the Armed Forces Radio Service. Initially, Cronauer’s irreverent style of broadcasting rubs the military brass the wrong way, but he eventually wins them over with his unique brand of comedy. He also forms a friendship with a Vietnamese DJ named Tuan (Chintara Sukapatana).
Cronauer’s off-the-cuff style of broadcasting soon makes him a favorite among the American troops, but it also puts him in the crosshairs of the military establishment. He is eventually transferred to a less prestigious assignment, but he continues to spread his message of hope and good cheer to the troops.
Meanwhile, Cronauer also has to deal with the horrors of war, as he begins to understand the true cost of the conflict. He also finds himself in a romantic entanglement with a Vietnamese woman named Trinh (Tung Thanh Tran).
