Synopsis/Plot
Goldfinger is a 1964 British spy film and the third installment in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions. It is based on the novel of the same name by Ian Fleming and stars Sean Connery as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond.
The film’s plot has Bond investigating gold smuggling by the gold magnate Auric Goldfinger and eventually uncovering Goldfinger’s plans to contaminate the United States Bullion Depository at Fort Knox. Bond is aided in his mission by his ally, Felix Leiter, and the beautiful Jill Masterson.
The film’s title song, “Goldfinger”, sung by Shirley Bassey, became a hit and is considered a classic Bond theme. Goldfinger was the first Bond film to win an Academy Award, for its sound effects.
The film also introduced the iconic character of Oddjob, Goldfinger’s Korean manservant and henchman, who became a fan favorite. The film was a financial success, earning over $125 million at the box office, and is widely considered to be one of the greatest Bond films of all time.
