GoldenEye is a 1995 spy film and the seventeenth entry in the James Bond series. The film follows Bond as he investigates the theft of a prototype helicopter from a Russian military base, and eventually uncovers a scheme to cause a global financial meltdown.
The film stars Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, and also features Sean Bean, Izabella Scorupco, Famke Janssen, and Alan Cumming. GoldenEye was directed by Martin Campbell, and was the first Bond film to be released after the end of the Cold War.
The film opens with Bond infiltrating a Russian military base to steal a prototype helicopter. He is successful, but is soon pursued by a Russian agent, Xenia Onatopp. Bond escapes, but his mission is not yet complete; he must find the person responsible for the theft.
Bond eventually discovers that the mastermind behind the theft is a former KGB agent, Alec Trevelyan. Trevelyan had been presumed dead after a failed mission in 1986, but is now working with a criminal organization called Janus. Janus is planning to use a stolen satellite weapon, codenamed GoldenEye, to cause a global financial meltdown.
