Synopsis/Plot
Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story is a 2009 made-for-television biographical drama film directed by Thomas Carter and starring Cuba Gooding Jr. as Dr. Ben Carson, a world-renowned neurosurgeon.
The film follows the life of Ben Carson from his childhood in Detroit, Michigan to his position as the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The film focuses on his struggles as a child with a poor academic record and his rise to success through hard work and determination.
The film begins with a young Ben Carson struggling in school and being labeled as a failure by his peers and teachers. His mother, Sonya Carson (Kimberly Elise), encourages him to focus on his education and to believe in himself. Ben soon discovers that he has a gift for science and mathematics, and his mother helps him to nurture this talent.
Through hard work and dedication, Ben is able to attend Yale University and later the University of Michigan Medical School. He eventually becomes a world-renowned neurosurgeon and is appointed the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Throughout the film, Ben faces various challenges and obstacles, including racism and prejudice.
