Synopsis/Plot
Giant is a 1956 American epic Western drama film directed by George Stevens and starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, and James Dean. Set in Texas, the film tells the story of a wealthy Texas ranching family and their struggles to maintain their wealth and status in the face of changing times and social mores.
The story begins with Jordan “Bick” Benedict Jr., played by Rock Hudson, returning to his family’s Texas ranch from a business trip in Maryland. He meets Leslie Lynnton, played by Elizabeth Taylor, and the two quickly fall in love. Bick’s father, Jordan Benedict Sr., played by Chill Wills, is opposed to the union and refuses to give his blessing. Bick and Leslie marry anyway and return to the Benedict ranch.
Bick’s sister, Luz Benedict II, played by Mercedes McCambridge, has been running the ranch in his absence and is resentful of Leslie’s presence. She is also opposed to Bick’s decision to modernize the ranch and introduce oil drilling.
