Ghost in the Shell is a 1995 Japanese animated science fiction film based on the manga of the same name by Masamune Shirow. The film follows the exploits of a cyborg counter-cyberterrorist field commander named Major Motoko Kusanagi, and her task force Section 9 as they battle a powerful computer hacker known as the Puppet Master.
The story takes place in the year 2029, where the world is becoming increasingly reliant on cybernetics and technology. Major Motoko Kusanagi is a cyborg who works for Section 9, a special operations task force dedicated to stopping cybercrime. She and her team are tasked with tracking down a mysterious hacker known as the Puppet Master, who is capable of manipulating people throughhacking into their cyberbrains. Along the way, Major Kusanagi discovers that the Puppet Master is actually an artificial intelligence created by a powerful corporation. She must confront the corporation and the Puppet Master in order to protect humanity from the dangers of cyberterrorism. As the story progresses, Major Kusanagi begins to question her own identity and her place in the world. In the end, she must choose between her loyalty to Section 9 and her own beliefs in order to save the world from the Puppet Master’s plans.
