Synopsis/Plot
Get Carter is a 1971 British crime drama directed by Mike Hodges and starring Michael Caine. It is based on the novel Jack’s Return Home by Ted Lewis. The film follows Jack Carter, a London gangster who travels to his hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne to investigate the suspicious circumstances surrounding his brother’s death.
Upon his arrival, Carter discovers that his brother had been involved in a shady business deal with a local gangster, Cyril Kinnear. He sets out to avenge his brother’s death and take revenge on those responsible. Along the way, he is aided by his former lover, Anna, and his friend, Cliff, who help him uncover the truth behind his brother’s death.
The film is a gritty, hard-boiled thriller that features intense action sequences and a dark, brooding atmosphere. It also features an excellent performance by Michael Caine, who brings a mix of toughness and vulnerability to his performance as Carter. The supporting cast includes Britt Ekland, Ian Hendry, John Osborne, and Alun Armstrong.
