Synopsis – What to Expect from “Gerry”
Gerry is a 2002 drama film written and directed by Gus Van Sant. The film stars Matt Damon and Casey Affleck as two friends, Gerry and Gus, who are on a road trip in the American Southwest.
The movie begins with Gerry and Gus talking about their plans for the road trip. They decide to take a hike in the desert to find a place they can call their own. As they walk, they talk about their lives and their dreams. Gerry is a bit of a dreamer, while Gus is more practical.
The two eventually find a spot in the desert and decide to camp there for the night. The next morning, they wake up and Gerry decides to explore the area. He finds a rock formation that he wants to climb, but Gus is not interested. Gerry decides to go alone, and soon finds himself lost in the desert.
Gerry begins to wander aimlessly, and soon finds himself in a very remote and dangerous part of the desert. He gets lost for days, and eventually begins to hallucinate. He also encounters a wild animal, which he manages to scare away.
Gerry eventually finds his way out of the desert, but he is now days behind schedule. He finds his way back to the rock formation he was trying to climb, and he and Gus climb it together. As they reach the top, they realize that they have become lost in the desert and have no idea how to get back.
